My first tour - Denver to Silverton
I sit here on a rest day looking back on the 6 days of riding that lead up to my arrival in Ouray Colorado. Wow, I have had some good times, experienced some great rides with scenic vistas, and learned a lot about touring. All in all this has been a good first touring trip.
Century rides in Angel Fire, NM
On June 29 and 30th 2013 Angel Fire will be the starting point of two century rides (Angel Fire is a ski resort east of Taos.) The first ride of slightly more than 100 miles has nearly 6,000 feet of climbing and passes through Taos, Sipapu and Mora. The second ride on Sunday the 30th is just under 100 miles and follows part of the Enchanted Circle in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Cost for one day is $90 or $160 for both days. Lodging is available at Angel Fire or at nearby campgrounds. The website for information and registration/lodging is: www.RoughRiders200.com.

Retirement
I met an older man a few years ago who said Retirement meant Retire your Bicycle! It has only been a month and a half since I have sold my business and am only now feeling the stress of it all leave. So what did I do to celebrate? I purchased a Surly Long Haul Trucker. My goal is to get into bicycle touring. Starting out in this state and eventually tour the U.S. then on to Europe. I know big dreams but you have to have something to keep your life exciting.

Congratulations to Richard Hufendick!!!!
A big double triple hurrah to our team mate Richard! On Saturday morning, July 14, at 5:30 am, he headed out of Burgen Park to climb Squaw Pass. After that, he headed through Idaho Springs and climbed Loveland Pass and and then tackled Vail Pass. The next day, he did the route in reverse. Yikes! Over 20,000 feet of elevation gain, 240 miles of biking, 5 major downpours of rain and 6 mountain passes. We are so proud of him!!!! RICHARD ROCKS!!!!!
So what does the route to St. Mary's look like - come fly with me!
If you've got Google Earth, click here to see a route flyover. And tomorrow - it's you, me, and those trusty legs taking us to the spectacular top!
You can do this - reward at the summit!
This Saturday's ride is to the spectacular St. Mary's Glacier area. Yea, there's a bit of climbing, but the scene, and the summit, are beautiful! If you're up to it, bring your flip flops in your back pocket and we can take the short (0.6 mile) hike up to the snowfields when we get to the top. We're bound to see a few skiiers and snowboarders who made the hike for a sweet summertime snowride. A steady climb, not too steep, and no hurry - it's about lovin' our Colorado from behind the handlebars.
