Back to the Coast...
We spent a few days with my cousin in San Francisco and then caught the train south to LA where we had planned to join up with the Sierra Cascades route which would take us into Reno (via the Death Ride). However, after two days on that route we were hot, sunburned and dehydrated.
The first day was a ride from Palmdale to Tehachapi, which happens to be the USA's largest wind farm. Cool right?! Yeah, except when you are riding into the wind. The second day was from Tehachapi to Lake Isabella with around 5000 ft of elevation gained over 60 miles...and no services. When we ran out of water we decided we were done with that route, and hopped the next train back to SF. (Turns out that they're still plowing a lot of the passes we would have been riding over. I think we made a wise choice!)
We've been riding down the coast since then. Big Sur was amazing. The weather has been much more enjoyable, and the biking has been fantastic overall. We're currently in Santa Barbara, and with just over a week left we're sad to see this adventure coming to an end. However, we're excited to be returning to Denver just in time for some great rides leading up to the Courage Classic!
Ride On!
