Lookout Mountain from the Pillars
This has been an OUT Spokin' favorite for several years. It is a great climb if you don't have a lot of time... up and down. Great scenery and you don't have to go into the Mountains. By starting at the pillars you can cut off 3 miles of climbing. If you are a beginner, or running late, this is the climb for you.
Beginners don't shy away from this route, it is a great climb just take it in small sections. Go as far as you can this week; next week try to go just a little farther. Before you know it you will be at the top.
Options: Ride to the summit or continue on to Buffalo Herd Overlook or as the summer days go longer, ride from Denver to the ride start.
Driving Instructions from 6th and 19th in Golden: Drive on 19th toward the mountains (west) road turns into Lookout Mountain Road. Park around Beverly Heights Park. You'll see the pillars up the road.
- 9.1 miles, 1,471 ft of elevation gain
